Another clean water thought. Add a sample of bandana or no see um netting just big enough to cover your water container opening to filter out particulates. It would weigh about nothing and take up about no space. I am sure some use these for this purpose, but I have not seen mention of it for a mini kit.

Good suggestion on the noseeum. I have had really bad luck trying to strain water through a bandanna. If I have running water then sure it's not a problem but pulling water from a river (which I often do) and attempting to strain it through a bandana is next to impossible unless you have all afternoon to be hunched over on the river bank. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Maybe I'll give the noseeum a try. That seems like a nice alternative. I have used noseeum head nets to make imptovised fish nets before and water seems to pass through them relatively easily.

I think these little biopsy bags would work well also. They are used to let formalin run through and keep small biopsies for processing.

I use a 3x3 piece of one of those permanent coffee filters.

They are about 2-3 times as fine straining as noseeum neeting and can be had cheap, just cut up the filter to the size you want, you don't need much.
