I like this one :

"Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend.
Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read !"

Groucho Marx.

(OK, it has nothing to do with survival..... except maybe that you can die if you don't laugh from time to time.... I think so..... Laughing is like breathing : vital !!

I miss the old comics. My grandfather took me to meet a gentleman he was working for. It was Stan Laurel. You can still drive to the residence of the famous Pianno delivery skit and a group is trying to do an annual reenactment. At a recent gunshow, I met a famous 'comic' who's routine included personal insult, profanity and the evil eye if anyone else said anything funny. <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Alain--
That's the quote that's scrolls across my screen when the screen saver kicks in. I love it!

Chris--
The most enjoyable evening's entertainment I ever experienced was watching Red Skelton perform live on stage. He even held still during the "Guzzler's Gin" routine for me to snap some incredible photos from between the footlights!

Victor Borge was pretty darn good, too!

They don't make 'em like that anymore.

ohh now its a guessing game as to whom the "comic" was.

and for what its worth, i grew up watching alot of movies like abbot & costello, hope & crosby, marx brothers, 3 stooges etc and its sad they really dont make them like that anymore because all of those films still stand up today.

i have alot of friends who are much younger then i am and im constantly giving them movies to see they never heard of (mostly to keep them off the street and out of trouble) and they end up loving those films like everyone else did.

They could sure make you laugh those men of old. Well ok, not that old. Today we have comedians who try to make you laugh with a bad routine, bad language and very insulting behavior. Could be why my TV stays off most of the time and I am on the internet so much.

My favorite line is NYUK! NYUK! NYUK! A wise guy! Eh?

i have to have my tv, even if you dont watch regular network programming you need a tv for dvds, vcr, video games etc.. hehe.

its a much needed tool.

and as far as the dirty comics go, i like alot of them, not because they curse theres alot, but they can be funny regardless. the swearing is often a punctuation to something.

for a really funny totally clean comic these days look up brian regan.

When my TV broke last year, I should have taken it as an opportunity to give it up. Instead, I took it as an opportunity to upgrade to a widescreen HD-ready TV. Ever since, I think I watch only one or two network shows a week, and very few cable shows. What's up with the trend towards so-called "reality" programs? But this TV is much better at DVD, and I watch more of that now, so maybe it was the right thing to do.

I tend to favor esoteric humor, the more obscure the better. For people with these tastes, MST3K was a high point... there were literary and cultural references in their jokes that I'm sure not one person out of 100 "got".

Geek humor- "there are only 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't."

sneaks up behind goatriders HDTV and begins stroking it gently...my precioussss...dont take my preciousssss.

and reality tv is horrible, easiest and dumbest form of tv going.
there were 2 exceptions to this glut of reality crap though.

1. the first season of survivor, it was NEW then and interesting, the people looked like normal people.
now they all look like old navy models.

2. the surreal life, it take 7 has beens of very different types and puts them in a house for 2 weeks.
example of first season was ron jeremy and tammy fay baker and erik estrada.
good to see "stars" act like normal people, and good for a few laughs.

however all other reality tv is just pandering to the lowest common denominator.

MST3K is one of my all time favorite shows, it grew from a little known cult classic to an actual pop phenomena.

nope those were classics.
although the politically correct movement has done their best to remove them from tv for more then a decade.
