Current NHC 5 day forecast has Frances on the east coast of Florida (and heading directly for Orlando) at 1400 Saturday.

First, I want to thank everyone who responded to my post about portable power. I had hoped to do some more research, put together a solution and post some pics. No time for that now. I need / want a generator. And there's apparently none to be had for quite some radius around Orlando.

Anyone local know of any place to buy about a 5 kW gasoline powered generator before Friday? I'll consider smaller, but I want to run a few lights and a window air conditioner at the same time. This size will apparently do that, based on reports from friends who have them (bought well before Charley, unfortunately).

After Fran hit NC back in 96, a bunch of folks went to Atlanta and grabbed a truckload of generators. Any chance you could get to Savannah or somewhere north of you in the next day or so? They are going to go fast with the forecast for the weekend. Good luck.

I second that. I was in Fran (and Bertha) back in 1996, and I remember seeing tractor trailers lined up and down I-40 selling generators out of the back for outrageous prices. Get one while you can, before the supply and demand ratios shift not in your favor.
