Would you be so kind as to help me decide upon a new folder for EDC. I am stuck between Fallkniven U2, Emerson Mini CQC-7A (plain edge, spearpoint) and Viper Rescuer. Basicaly these three companies are the only named-brands available around here (I strongly prefer to handle the knife a bit before buying).
Vipers seem nice (semu-custom made) my only reserve is that they are quite unknown and therefore it is difficult to get any feedback regarding them on the internet.
Besides the urban usage (as a tool so it needs not have tactical written all over) I intend to take this knife along when flying and have it on me at all times while keeping a fixed-bled (Fallkniven F1) in my flying-bag. In that aspect Rescuer with belt cutter looks appealing, or is the belt cutter just a waste of cutting edge (a do have a dedicated belt cutter, but us pilots have a thing for redundancy)? It also hase the best locking mechanism (framelock) but at least to my knowladge the worst and also the softest steel ( Sandvik 12C27, 55/57 HRC).
The only downside of U2 for me is that one can not open it with a single hand.
While the Emerson besides being the most expenssive (about 1,5 times) and the bulkiest also seems to have issues with quality control which is a bit of a turn-off.

The problem is that there is a very limited selection of knive manufacturers available where I live and I wolud rather not buy something I haven't handled first. Only if all of the above knives prove to be unsuited for my needs I will consider buying over the internet.

I would choose an Emerson mini-CQC 7A and ask for a wave feature, if possible.

I used to EDC a wave mini-CQC7 B, but I don't like the tanto point :
1) too"tactical" looking for sheeples !!
2) I can't sharpen it correctly (even if there is only 1 side to sharpen ! )

So I switched to Doug's RSK for EDC.

I tried to buy an wave mini-CQC7A, but quite impossible to get it here, in France, as there is no retailler.

Hello everybody,

You people use way too many survival acronyms. I've puzzled most of them out, but "EDC" stumps me. Best I can do is "Emergency Disaster Cit", but that misspells "Kit" and you're using it as a verb. You've forced me to sign on so I can ask. Is there a "newbie survival kit" section that lists all the different acronyms?

EDC= Every Day Carry, or what you keep on your person all the time.
I think there was a thread on acronyms, someone will probably beat me to it, but let me look.
Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Actually, that list only covers common Net acrynyms, I'm rather up on those. I'm more interested in the survival specific ones. That other link you posted lists a few though, that helps.

I'm also struggling with the best EDC knife. I have a need for a knife that a lot of you haven't thought of- carving the sharp bite spikes on my dog's frisbees after she'd caught them a few times. The tiny Gerber Ultralight LST is perfect for that, with it's short wide blade. But I also want a toothpick, so a Swiss Army Knife would seem to be a good idea, but the little blade on the smallest one is not very comfortable. Right now I've got both on my keychain, but I prefer a minimal keychain. SAK seems to be the only ones that put a toothpick on their knives, did they patent that or something?
