Just curious on what othes have added to their ETS Pocket Survival Pack.I have added a Photon II,wire saw and a gaff hook.I slipped the point of the hook into the whistle to prevent it from poking through the pack.I also added two Benadryl for bee allergy.Yes I also carry an Epi Pen.I need to add a water carrier of some sort as well as water treatment.I tried it out in my sink and it still floated.So whats your modifications.

None. I view Doug's kit as an extension to the stuff I was already carrying. (I guess you could look at it either way...)

I already carry a whistle, two lights, a knife, lighter, etc. In my backback are various meds for allergies, etc (Benadryl and Advil, mostly).

If (when?) I buy another one, though, it'll be different. The others kits will go in various bags in various places and will need additional stuff.

The nicest thing about the kit, from my point of view, is that a single source provides so many useful items. I've yet to find one web site that sells all the stuff I want, so shipping costs really increase total PSK cost.

I use it as a part of my EDC (which includes a Surefire 6P + Doug's RSK + Leatherman PST, etc..).
Inside the kit itself, I added a red Photon III, a magic candle, water purification tablets, vaseline impregnated cotton and ... well, that's it as far as I remember ... I will have to check it one more time ....

Doug didn't like the Photon for use in the PSP, because it turns on when squeezed, so piling stuff on top of the PSP can drain the batteries, etc. You might use the $1.00 Countycomm lights instead, which have only a slide switch, no squeeze switch.

Another thing I'd do is replace the tiny pencil with a regular thickness golf pencil, which can double as a handle for the scalpel blade. I might pre-cut a notch in the golf pencil ahead of time, for tying wire to.

Water carrier: use a 1 liter ziploc freezer bag, folded up.

There was a thread with some other suggestions like this when the PSP first came out a few months ago.

I put the botton of the Photon II against the back of the mirror.I pushed on it in so many ways that IMHO it can not accidentally turn on.As others have stated,this is a back up plus for other gear I carry.Super Leatherman+Micra ,CMG Ultra LED light,Vic. Champion and A.G.Russell one hand knife to list a few.

Modified PSK for wife:
1. SAK - soldier variant with saw, large blade,awl, can opener, screwdriver.
2. 10 water purification tabs
3. 2 zip loc waterbags
4. 2 more tinder quik tabs
5. 4 band-aids
6. LED light attached to lanyard hole.

It's a tight squeeze, but it all fit in quite nicely.

I added two Gerber Seal n Go bags for water storage, four micro-pur tabs, and a credit-card sized DMT diamond sharpening stone (fine). 10 ft of 550 cord is rolled up nicely and connected via the lanyard hole, and a leatherman micra, garbage bag and wire saw sit in my bookbag nearby.

When I get a chance (that is, when CountyComm gets them back in stock), I plan on adding a coin-cell light with a switch and white LED. The sharpener is a little thick and heavy-- a smaller one in medium or coarse grit might be a little better for this particular job.

It would have been nice if the ziplock bag had its hole on the corne instead of the middle of the top. It would be a little easier to fill and use. Otherwise I love it.

BTW, does anyone have a source for the aviation wire used in the kit? It comes in VERY handy for quick repairs.

For aircraft grade stainless steel safety wire, try AircraftSpruce.com. The wire is used to wire on critical bolts, fittings, etc. to ensure they can't twist off in flight. Even the oil filter is wired on. That's why aircraft engines are so expensive to maintain. What take minutes to do on an automobile engine takes 1/4 hours on an airplane.

If you only want a little bit of the wire, you could try contacting a local chapter of the EAA (or the RAA in Canada) to see if any of the members have some leftover wire they want to get rid of.

I taped a quarter to the button side of a Photon with duct tape. That gives me (a) a Photon microlight, (b) a shield to prevent the button from being accidentally depressed, (c) a quarter to make a phone call, and (d) a small supply of duct tape. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
