This is for people in the US. Our country is changing. How are you changing your prep? Here are just some thoughts.

-- Less FEMA or government aid. I think we will have to expect to be on our own basically. I could see two changes: (1) increase the amount of supplies for "bug in" scenarios, because you may have to be on your own for a long time; (2) some scenarios that were previously regarded as "bug in" now may become "bug out" scenarios, because you may have to be on your own for so long that it's better to just get out ahead of the disaster.

-- Epidemic outbreaks. Vaccination rate will get lower in the future. Many CDC scientists have been/will be fired, leading to more epidemic outbreaks and less effective government response. What can we do as individuals? Should we redo/update our vaccination? Do we need to stock up on supplies in preparation for another covid-like outbreak?

-- Less accurate weather reports. NWS, NOAA, etc. are getting downsized, and that will lead to less accurate weather reports. I'm not sure how to respond to this one. I rely on tornado, hurricane, & other types of warnings, and this is not something that I can do on my own.

However, your local political/social situation should be a factor in any planning. It should NOT be a discussion agree/disagree sort of thing but a frank appraisal of your location and personal situation.

I have and continued to modify what I have and how I plan as I age and as my community/area evolves. I would prep differently if I lived just outside a small rural Iowa town as compared to being in an apartment on the south side of Minneapolis. The local 'rules, regulations and expectations' will differ place to place and are a part of planning but not a good/bad discussion point. With that, an exchange of how people are adapting to the things changing (or NOT changing) in their area will be very interesting,

One problem I see as badly in need of a fix (which I don't see coming anytime soon) is fragility of the electrical grid. Even if you have your own generator, a prolonged breakdown would disrupt many systems, and produce a lot of desperate people.

No prep will be adequate from here on out, at least for the stuff that most self-identified 'preppers' are trying to prepare for. I'll continue to prep for the stuff I've always focused on such as weather events and unexpected unemployment/financial emergencies. But I've also prioritized keeping up a good stock of 5.56, 9mm and .40 cal ammo and work to keep those firearms in good working order.

There was a widespread series of storms over the weekend. I was in one of the affected areas. I looked out the window and I could see the raging storm. I looked at my phone and the weather report said the sky was clear. This dramatic disparity is something I'd never seen before in my life.

What are we going to do if there is a tornado, flood, etc. coming and there is no warning?

Since Phaedrus raised the issue of ammo... how are the CCW folks doing? What are you having to change?

I am a concealed carrier, concealed carry instructor, and active member of my local CERT.

Practice ammo is still quite pricey but perhaps a little cheaper than it was two years ago. I haven't been tracking prices carefully -- I belong to multiple groups that do large-scale group buys periodically, giving opportunities to buy ammo when it's cheap rather than when I need it.

The large cities I visit for work have become noticeably more dangerous.

My CERT continues to operate essentially as it has. We've done well in recruiting new members.

It's not clear to me yet how the Magnet family will deal with any loss of weather warnings that may occur. While I think of myself as being able to read the skies pretty well, nobody has to tell me that weather satellites and radar do it better than I can with my eyeballs.

Good thing I stocked up years ago! The prices are insane.

After a conversation with a CCW instructor, I started thinking that the defensive situation has become more complex and more dangerous. An increasing number of states have adopted constitutional carry, and that means there are some people who carry but do not know the law or what good judgment looks like. Secondly, the situation today is such that it can be impossible to ascertain that the party you encounter is the authorities before you submit to restraint. It may just be a matter of time before an incident happens somewhere in the country, and I want no part of that. Third, it seems that there is an increasing tendency for people to arm themselves and seek confrontation with protesters. That's dangerous even to bystanders, as bullets have no eyes. I am going to have to put aside my hobby of photographing events.
