Hey, guys, I'm appealing to the gear experts here. I need a 2" safety pin that cannot be opened without some sort of very deliberate action (I'm thinking something like an additional clasp, or maybe a loving mechanism like a carabiner).

This is for my dog. I use a safety pin to pin something for her. She's accidentally opened the safety pin twice without meaning. That's ouch for her and ouch for me.

If no one can think of anything, I feel like duct tape will do. But that makes taking the pin off messy.

Diaper pins!

I still have a bunch of old school diaper pins in my emergency kits.

These are the ones with metal heads you had to slide forward, like a safety, before you could open them. With the metal heads, you can tweak how easy it is to open with a Leatherman.

I haven't looked recently, but lots of people use cloth diapers. I'll bet they're still out there.

Blanket pins are also great! Heavy duty and not prone to popping open.

Hey. We keep Great Danes, and we understand the problem of bandaging -- anything. Mostly it's the elastic vet wrap that holds on bandages, secured by super sticky tape.

Kinda cool to see how the "usual suspects" chime in to solve a problem. :-)

Yup... a diaper pin would work:

That's just one example but, I'm sure you get the idea.

I use the pin on a seat cover. Obviously the dog puts her weight on the cover, and once in a blue moon she accidentally pops open the safety pin.
