As the Thanksgiving holiday approached, my family and I were eagerly anticipating the arrival of my sister Brittany, her husband, and their child. We had been planning for weeks, making lists of all the delicious dishes we would prepare.

However, our excitement was short-lived when we received a call from Brittany, informing us that both she and her husband had come down with a nasty cold. They were disappointed to have to cancel their plans, and we were equally disappointed to hear the news.

After some discussion, my mother and I decided that we would still celebrate Thanksgiving, but on a smaller scale. We would prepare a simple meal and spend the day together, just the two of us.

As we began to prepare for our quiet holiday, my mother had an idea. She suggested that we invite some friends of ours, a couple who were also without plans for the holiday, to join us for dinner. It was a stroke of genius, and we quickly made the call to extend the invitation.

On Thanksgiving day, our friends arrived, and we spent the day cooking, eating, and enjoying each other's company. We shared stories and played games. It was a day filled with love and gratitude.

One of the Offspring had been bringing someone to family events who was…well…not one of my favorite people.

The Offspring’s relationship with this person ended before Thanksgiving and it was far FAR FAR more enjoyable as a result.

And The Offspring is happier.
