When Mom and I moved here to Nacogdoches more than a year ago, we could not find a synagogue. Recently, Mom discovered a congregation in Mt Enterprise. Friday, at sundown, we celebrated Yom Teruah in an old community center. There were approximately forty people in attendance, and every age group was represented, which I liked. While most of us looked casual, there were two families who were more orthodox in their attire. I found this diversity refreshing. My favorite part of the night was the food and dancing. Everyone brought Mediterranean dishes. Afterward, most of us engaged in traditional dancing. I can't remember the last time I had fun on a holiday. I thought I was getting too old for fun.

The congregation will be at Lake Murvaul for Sukkot. However, Mom and I scouted the campgrounds today. It's tradition to be outdoors on Sukkot, but a cabin is close enough. There (after all, it is on the lake), I discovered that I will need to bring insect repellant. I will also bring sunscreen, and my swimsuit and hunt for a beach towel.

As for Sukkot activities, one will be a contest to build the best Sukkah booth using gram crackers.

I think there is great value in the rhythms and traditions that our grandparents and their grandparents observed -- even for those of us who are not devout, or view our respective faith traditions in a different light. These things keep us grounded; they are points to navigate by.

Though out of season, I got a beach towel at Ollie's today, for just in case.

We had to cut our trip short and came back after just four days instead of eight. During the trip, we faced an issue with the water. Despite filtering the tap water through a Sawyer Squeeze water filter, the taste was unbearable, and it was a significant downer. If we plan a similar trip in the future, could you please suggest any effective ways to improve the taste of the water?

Edit: During our trip, we had the opportunity to meet many new people, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that every individual we spoke with was a prepper. It was fascinating to hear about their perspectives on emergency preparedness and the measures they take to ensure their safety and well-being in the face of unforeseen events.

If the water is made safe to drink but has a bad taste, I like adding lemonade powder, a Nuun electrolyte tablet (no affiliation), or something like that.

I tried adding Propel to improve the taste, but unfortunately, it didn't help.
