In the other thread (Need some advice) I mentioned peanut butter jars. It got me thinking about the jars themselves, not the tasty content.

In our markets, we do not have 5 pounds jar of peanut butter. At least I haven't seen it personally. What we have is

Big = 28 Oz = approx. 800 grams
Medium = 18 Oz = 510 grams
Small = 8 Oz = 227 grams

When empty, the medium and small in particular are very useful around the workshop. They are great for screws, nuts and bolts, nails, and all kinds of parts. Big size are not as useful. I use only a few here and there. But beautiful thing is that storing them is space-efficient because the small or medium size can fit nicely inside the big jar.

Coat hangers made of iron or aluminium wire are among the most versatile. For example, you can straighten it (keeping the hanging 'question mark' intact and making a complete loop on the other end. You get a retrieving tool about 1 meter (3 feet) long.

The other day I got some workers around the house. They climbed ladders to finish some job and it occurred to me that they could finish another job while they are up there. I brought them a box of wire coat hangers, cut one in half and folded it around the ladder step in a U-shape, then twisted it around to make its ends in a Y-shape. Then asked them to do the same across a few horizontal beams extending from the house where pigeons used to sit and make a mess underneath. Pigeons must have started looking for another place to sit and our sitting area in the garden stays clean.

Coat hangers are great and versatile.
Don't throw them away.

Another use of coat hangers

When I arranged my home office I had two wooden bookshelves and three metal bookshelves. The wooden ones were closed end to end, but the metal ones were like a skeleton of shelves plus 4 columns in the corners. So books needed something to hold them or else would fall So I 'threaded' coat hangers throw the column holes (in a similar way like shoe laces). This not only kept books within, but added rigidity to the bookshelves.

I once used coat hangers to make a metal puzzle for my grandson.

Can make a good campfire toaster too.

If cut in almost half vertically, one half makes a cradle for the sliced bread with 2 hooks, the other half makes a handle with two eyelets. That should form a hinge can flip the bread over to toast the other side.

Yup.
Possibilities are endless, only limited to your imagination and handyman skills.

This is a slotted angular post. They are used as posts for metal shelves.

I have a few pieces from 1 meter to half meter. I repurposed some of them as tool holders. You fix the piece HORIZONTALLY on the wall. And use the holes to hold screwdrivers and such .

Anyway, it is a long metal post made of a thick sheet of metal bent at 90 degree in the vertical middle. both sides have holes to fasten the shelves at any height you desire.
