It was discussed a while back that the dot com version was going away but the dot org version will still be up. http://www.equipped.org/Hope that helps... Then again I may be "off base" and didn't really get your question. I think the com to org thing was/is for all the sites.

What a shame! I was there for many years and liked the forum but it was always unstable for me, lots of outages and downtime. Sadly a lot of great info will be lost if it's truly gone forever.

Yeah, ouch. There are hard cash costs to keeping a legacy website up and running. Server costs, domain costs, security worries -- it's a bottomless pit.
The internet can remember it for you, wholesale. Woo! If you pay.
And so much can be lost. The internet can forget it for you, wholesale. Click, click, click, and it's gone forever.
Tip o' the hat to Doug Ritter for keeping this forum alive, even if only for the evergreen knowledge it contains.

Looks like it's back up. No word yet on what happened. Tip o' the hat to Doug Ritter for keeping this forum alive, even if only for the evergreen knowledge it contains. Well said sir!

Another tip of the hat to Doug
In addition to the knowledge this forum contains, there is something psychological about it. It is one of the few things remaining intact thru the years and waves of change.
Thanks Doug, and everyone who helps keep this place and its warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Thanks, from the other side of the planet

Curious if it is gone or just technical difficulties?
Looking at the wayback machine it was at least up and running on 8th and 17th August

How about transforming one of ETS sub-forums to an EDC forum. Those two in the bottom are completely deserted.
I will have the first thread there, seriously. Here it is:
A few days, I was waiting my turn in a clinic. A guy comes in with a briefcase. Black in colour, but the inside is blazing orange. I liked the overall size and shape. Any ideas what it could be ??

Thanks for everything you do Chaosmagnet
I know nothing about forum management and technology, but seems to me that what is needed to establish a new forum is to rename the "Marketplace" to "EDC STUFF", for example. If this is true, then may I dare to suggest doing it first, and it may help to attract EDC enthusiasts.
As all of us know, forum membership and activity have spiralled downward globally after the invention of social media. So, it maybe hard to gather enough votes to rename the sub-forum as a first step. OTOH, an existing EDC STUFF sub-forum may attract a few members. And if it doesn't, the forum as is has been inactive for years. Not much to lose.
Just my 2¢

I still prefer forums to other forms of social media.

Each one has its place and use.
WhatsApp for example, is good for a small group of people. We have one for my immediate family. Two married daughters do not live with us anymore. Two super-busy sons are rarely seen. We communicate and exchange news ..etc. We see our funny grandkids.
However, forums are best for larger groups with different discussion subjects. In my corner of the world, we have a WhatsApp group for people building their houses. We exchange ideas and info. Needless to say the group is chaotic. One guy is asking about the best plumber, the next is showing a contractor mistake, the third is advertising their engineering office. Total mess.
Beautiful thing about a forum is to categorize discussions. One section for plumbing, one section for electric, one section for gov codes and regulations .. etc. Much more organized than all these forms of social media
BUT ... Most people won't even think of going "back" to forums
