We had a bad storm in the North Country, with a lot of stranded motorists. Here is a good story on local rescue efforts. And I have a question for the search and rescue pros here.

Local fire departments depend on snowmobilers to volunteer for these types of rescue efforts. Do any of you know of dedicated type snowmobiles that a fire department could use in such conditions? Have any of you had experience using snow vehicles in a rescue? What works best?

I'm working from memory 40 years ago but I think the local rescue squad had a tracked vehicle. It looked like something a ski resort might use. Longer & wider than a jeep. Maybe four seats.

Up here in northern Wisconsin there are hundreds of very active snowmobile/ATV clubs that would quickly respond to a request for assistance from fire departments and law enforcement.
