I posted a short review of this excellent light over in Candlepower Forums this evening. I'm wondering if the sort of bar pattern of the laserbeam (about 3" long I would estimate at about 50 yards) means it might have similar utility to the Rescue Laser Flare reviewed on equipped.org? The PL-7 is about $38 at Tadgear now and the last time I looked the Rescue Laser Flares were running $90 to $100 or so. With the PL-7 you get the operating life from 2-123 lithium cells (6 v total), very bright steady light from the 6 LED's, plus the SOS beacon feature, HA3 anodizing, and beautiful checkered knurling. I'll be putting my PL-7 through it's paces tonight.

I'm going to partially answer my own question here. I just checked and Doug's illustration of the RLF beam alongside a regular laser spot beam at 10 feet shows that the RLF beam is already several inches long at that distance. The PL-7 LED flashlight/laser still has pretty much a spot beam at 10 feet, that doesn't elongate until you get out to a much greater distance.
