I tend to use Edding markers for some tasks. The body is made from aluminum. As long as you do not hit the cap they dent but do not break. They are available in different sizes and tip shapes. They write on most surfaces even on slightly oily surfaces or whiteboards.
They even have one where the writing is only visible in UV light.
