Two thoughts: (1) If you're a pilot, make sure that you can afford a PLB. (2) Don't work for illegal mining operations.

Interesting story.

Edit: As pointed out below, NYT is paywalled. At least part of the story is available here, no account needed: https://news.slashdot.org/story/21/03/29...e-the-hard-part

And here it is at the tribune, maybe they don't require an account? https://www.chicagotribune.com/nation-wo...mqte-story.html

Sorry ya'll, paywalls suck.

This was reported 3 weeks ago over here.

"The 36-year-old had lost four stone during his five-week ordeal but thankfully was released from hospital after treatment for dehydration and minor injuries."

"The monkeys, however, were a godsend. After watching them eat a small, bright pink fruit called breu, Sena assumed it was safe for human consumption, and it became his main source of sustenance."

I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Monkeys are omnivores like us, so do they have any adaptions to be able to eat fruit that we'd find toxic? Don't know.

Eating something after seeing a herbivore eat it, seems like it'd be a higher risk for sure. All kinds of herbivores have adaptions to eat all kinds of things toxic to us.

Bit like dogs are carnivores, and why some of our foods are toxic to them, as their digestion hasn't adapted due to relatively short time they have been domesticated.

I would've thought maybe the monkeys would have been his main source of sustenance!
