I thinking about putting a laminated 'luggage tag" on each bag -- listing what its for and whats in it.

I use badge holders with a ziploc like closure. Waterproof and easy to update.

I use it both to identify what it is and to mark equipment that has some important notes to it:

- Avalanche airbag: Attach canister (stored loose)
- Avalanche transceiver: No battery (stored separately)
- Things that need maintenance
- Things that are broken.

I prefer the excitement of finding something that I needed three years ago tucked away inside a newly rediscovered EDC carry bag that I lost five years ago.

Good idea - I may leave the backs blank and white; and use a dry erase marker to make notes.

Print same thing on both sides of the tag.

At home, it's kept me from getting stuff I don't need.

This is something I also do at the firehouse now that I'm one of the 2 quartermasters. It really helps with clarity and speed.

I own a basic laminator and picked up a bunch of ID card tags at Staples, we print HUGE LETTERS with minimal information.
