I discussed what I'm doing with Mom. I'm building a one-person survival system as a proof of concept. If we like it, I will expand it to include her. The one-person system consists of a backpack and a duffle bag. Other than adding the PSP, which I have, The SEVENTY2, which I currently have, will remain unmodified. That will be the backpack part of the system. https://unchartedsupplyco.com/products/the-seventy2I'm using the Complete as a model but I won't be using it as is. https://www.stormpacks.com/products/completeInstead, I'm getting the Skeleton, with the submersible bag, sleeping bag, and Inferno with fuel canisters. https://www.stormpacks.com/products/skelton-pack-it-yourself?variant=29955068002413https://www.stormpacks.com/collections/storm-packs/products/sterno-inferno-stoveIn the hydration organizer, I'm including water packets and water purification tablets. I'm including a 10-Litre Foldable Water Storage Container in the duffle bag but not in the hydration organizer. https://72hours.ca/collections/emergency-water-2/products/10-gallon-foldable-water-storage-containerIn the nutrition organizer, I'm including six freeze-dried meals and a camping multi-tool. https://72hours.ca/collections/cooking/products/6-in-1-tool-kit-camping-multi-toolIn the essentials organizer, I'm including a poncho, Three Wick 36HR Candle, tissue pack, a roll of duct tape in addition to what I have in the backpack, playing cards, GI can opener, Emergency Preparedness Guidebook (maybe), and a pencil. https://www.emergencyzone.com/products/e...372f6&_ss=rI will include a two-person hygiene kit but I don't know if I will have it in the essentials organizer or separate. https://www.emergencyzone.com/products/deluxe-hygiene-4-person?_pos=1&_sid=50b4b16fd&_ss=rI'm also including a roll of toilet paper, but it won't be in the organizer. I'm not a fan of TheSEVENTY2. - It's expensive for what it contains
- The standalone flashlight is a "zoomie"; while I haven't handled this specific unit the type, in my experience, is neither high performing nor rugged
- The multitool is not one that I can recommend
- If the entrenching tool is the one I think it is, it's quite flimsy
- No information about the knife is provided, but I know I'm not a fan of black coatings on a knife that I want to be able to find if I drop it
- I don't recognize the emergency blanket but it looks like it would be an inexpensive mylar version -- the Heatsheets 2-person is far superior in ruggedness and usability
I could go on, suffice it to say that I could build a kit with better components for much less than this costs. It's not all bad news, the Sawyer filter is excellent (and what I would pick), the Datrex rations are well regarded, and the radio/cellcharger/flashlight (if it's the Eton it looks like) is very good. The Sterno stove wouldn't be my choice, I chose an inexpensive isopropane stove ( https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NJYV3NP/) -- it works surprisingly well for the price. If I understand correctly, Sterno puts out a lot less heat for a given weight of fuel. I don't see anything for navigation, a headlamp, or redundancy for fire.

Depends on users and climate.
I would not carry a full roll of duct tape.

I did look at that stove but went with the Inferno, which can be used indoors. Jeanette Isabelle

I would not carry a full roll of duct tape. It does appear to be overkill, but I think I should have extra duct tape. Jeanette Isabelle

I also think a hiking pack, properly fitted with a beefy hip belt is a good place to start.
Also, always pack water.

+1 heartily agree with Chaosmagnet. Overpriced and under quality. Basically you can do much better buying contents individually.
Sterno fuel is ok for chafing dishes but inadequate for cooking or water purification. I have a folding shovel like the one depicted and it is ok but needlessly heavy. I prefer a model with a wooden handle. No name multitool - get a Leatherman.
You should try out the components in this kit, at least in your backyard or on a camping trip where shortcomings will not result in a crisis. There is a lot you will replace.

I don't see anything for navigation, The PSP has a compass. The following would be my first choice. https://zpacks.com/products/petzl-e-lite-headlampI have two of the three methods. I might throw in a disposable lighter. Jeanette Isabelle

In addition to the camping tool, I have a multi-tool included in The SEVENTY2. Jeanette Isabelle

Since the camping multi-tool already includes a can opener, I can drop the GI can opener. I can also drop the roll of duct tape.

Duct tape is pretty handy, I'd keep that if possible.

Duct tape is pretty handy, I'd keep that if possible. I already have that tiny roll in the PSP and the five yards in The SEVENTY2. Jeanette Isabelle

I guess that's not bad. In a survival kit or a day hiking kit I usually have a 5 yard flat pack of duct tape which is a useful amount. But for a kit that rides in a vehicle I like to have a full roll.

I think a BoB needs an explainer after it --"This is a bail out bag for x person, intended to solve y problem." Otherwise you get a mish-mash of equipment which is a little first aid oriented, a little camping focused and a little tools/fix it oriented...

Nothing inherently wrong with that, as long as it is appropriate for the individual and the likely situation. I think that is a fairly accurate description of the bag I maintained for SAR, although it was heavier than average on first aid.
Any bag needs to be tweaked to adjust to the changing seasons, at a very minimum....
