Has anybody ever tried these? I know they probably taste pretty nasty, but wanted to know if anybody uses them in a survival kit.

I had a bottle from www.majorsurplusnsurvival.com @ 12 tabs a day you have 15 days of supply and a useable water container to wash the things down. They cost $25+ s/h. The taste isn't bad at all- except the taste you get after buying something that doesn't quite measure up. The tabs provide the RDA vitamens and minerals. I lasted 4 days on a tab and water diet. I don't know how rapidly the body exausts specific vitamens and minerals or the immediate effects on the average metabolism. I was plenty grumpy in spite of my B12 <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I guess I was supposed to be trapping rabbits with my snare wire, stewing up grubs and dandelions and catching Coho Salmon with my PSK fishing kit. My view is these tabs are the philosophical equal of the space blanket. For $25 buy some dehydrated or long term foodstuffs.

The malt flavored (original) ones aren't bad at all, haven't had a chance to try the (relatively) new chocolate flavored ones yet. I've got a bottle of the originals now, that I keep in the "go" bag that I get into every few days (not a bad munchy in the middle of the day, and now that they're open I might as well use them up and get a replacement for "dedicated" use). I'd VERY much want these along to supplement whatever I could scrounge up, just for the vitamin/mineral/calory count.

Did you know that there are people out there who try to use the survival tabs to make alcohol? A bud of mine made me try it - perhaps a taste of fermented mash, but none of the buzz.
