Wow, thank you so much for the detailed information, Alain. I am assuming that since I want a smaller wrap(I don't think I could use the side snaps of my hat if I used 6 wraps) I should make the length of my loop equal to the total thickness of the hat braid? Thanks again!
the first loop I make around the nails is temporarily tied, just to keep it in place. Once the braiding is done, I adjust it to the desired width of the belt (or whatever).
