The front page lead article in today's LA Times is sobering reading. Power outages combined with isolation, complacency, and social attitudes yield a very bad outcome...

Worth a thoughtful read...

Can I get a summary, please? The article is not allowed to be read in Europe.

Quote:
While most of our pages are available in a version of latimes.com created for European Union users, some are currently unavailable. We are engaged on the issue and committed to identifying technical compliance solutions to this problem. Thanks for your interest in the Los Angeles Times.

Basically warning systems were activated late aand did not reach the intended population, many of whom were quite isolated. Some distrusted government authority and did not leeave. As the fire advancd, pushed by strong winds, cell towers went down, further scrambling the situation. Incompleete evacuation maps did not help.

I reported here my quick evacuation from a wildfire about three years ago at one in the morning. When in doubt, leave early and avoid the rush. Heed official notifications.

What kind of a lousy system prevents the exchange of information across international boundaries? This is retarded....

Those are hair-raising accounts. It's surprising the warning systems aren't more robust.

(Herman30, a browser VPN plugin will get you past international barriers. I have had good luck with TunnelBear. They have a free option to promote their paid service. https://www.tunnelbear.com/apps/browser )
