To those of you who are CPR trained: if you carry an emergency CPR barrier shield (MicroShield, etc) which is your favorite? Have you had to use one for real, and how well did it perform? I love the old standard Laerdal Pocket Mask, but those things are too darn bulky to carry on your person when off duty.

I carry the MicroShield on my key ring and have one in my pocket when on duty. I keep a Laerdal Pocket Mask in each of my various personal trauma kits. However, to date on all of my respiratory/cardiac arrests with one exception, I have only used a BVM or BV to ET. I have only had to perform CPR using mouth to mouth on one person and that was my mother (did not use a barrier device). Sorry I cannot be of help on this one. Pete

I've used a Micro-sheild for real twice in the last year. It works fine. I still prefer a bag, the puke is distressing, but in the most recent case, I was covered in blood anyway, so don't really know what the point was in using the shield, but I used it anyway until someone showed with a bag and all that.

It didn't work either time, they both died, but I gave it a shot.

I carry a micro shield but never used it since I have a pocket mask in my backpack.

I prefer not to get that close to someone however Laderal Makes a decent pocket mask kit with mask, gloves, handwipe, and a good case. If I had to use something other than a BVM that would be it.
