Survivor Video from the rescue helo We've had a very strange winter so far. Hardly any snow all fall, and very warm, in fact 2009 was the warmest year on record in Anchorage. Then right at Christmas time we had a good dump of snow and it turned cold. And has stayed cold ever since. Skwentna, near where this story takes place is in the Susitna Valley, about 70 miles north of Anchorage. Temperatures in Skwentna have dropped as low as -32 Deg F (-35 C) during the first week in January. And more snow up there than we've had in town.
