Tropical Storm Dorian Not a hurricane yet but the probability cone indicates possible landfall in central Florida late Sunday as a hurricane. Maybe...

Whew! It's just a tropical storm. Of course, it remains a TS at wind velocity of 74 mph, but if it bumps up to 75, it's a HURRICANE. I doubt my roof shingles would know the difference.

Anyway, i'll just pour a cup of coffee, have a seat, relax, and watch the show while awaiting the next earth shaking event in SoCal.

Yep, same here. As for all hurricane (and SOCAL EQ & wildfire) events, my truck’s gas tank is full and the kit in back is ready. For a wildfire (enough time to see it coming, as with TS Dorian), I’d also pack the truck with all the extra stuff that’s difficult to replace: important papers, laptop PC, et al — then I’d wait to see if I need to bug out. In which case I’d beat the rush and leave early.

The bail-out bag ordered this morning will arrive early next week so it would be too late for Dorian — but I’m not concerned with Dorian except to wish those living within that probability cone all the best. Get ready...

According to Accuweather, Dorian will only be a Cat.3 hurricane when it hits Florida — assuming the current probability cone model. This is the category that all the old-timers will laugh at (no big deal) and not evacuate. Then the hurricane doesn’t read the memo — they never do.

So if you choose to not evacuate, use Dorian as a storm to practice hurricane preps. Develop evacuation plans, build skills and then test them. When something unexpected happens, at least you’ll have your gear ready.

All of you in Florida take care and stay safe. The precip can be just as much of a problem as the wind velocity.

we've had a tremendous amount of rain already this season... ground is saturated, and fresh water flooding is a big concern...

topped off the fuel cans yesterday, car today
couple extra cans of Chunky Soup, packs of hot dogs, iced tea (my typical storm menu)
3 propane bulk containers
will charge up the cordless drill battery and AA Eneloops this weekend
probably re-fill the stored water in the Specter 10L containers

It has been an unusually wet August.

My family lives in south Louisiana. Our preps are place we’ll maintain HurCon 5 until we see which way Dorian jumps after it hits Florida. Yes, of course I just got on the boat.
