Awesome! I read about the case a couple days after she was reported missing. After a couple weeks the suspicion is that she was murdered or abducted, or perhaps fell to her death or drowned. Hawaii isn't all that big. On the plus side it's a pretty hospitable climate with some food and water resources. I hope we get a few more details. The story said she fractured her leg, and presumably that's why she didn't self-rescue.

In any event it's awesome to hear she's alive and well. smile

It is one of the more forgiving environments for survival. Plenty of water, no temperature extremes, some food growing wild. There was probably more food around that she didn't know about. It is an easy place to get lost and hurt though. High cliffs that are hidden by brush until you are on the edge of it, rough volcanic rock. Depending on her altitude, hypothermia could have been an issue. It rains a lot there.

I hadn't seen the 2nd one. First one was weird! Sat down to "meditate", wound up falling asleep then waking disoriented enough to fall down a ravine. I wonder if the meditation involved rolling a fat joint? grin

Once again, how different thing might have been if she had a very basic pack with the ten essentials* -- or some high tech gear. (cell phone, PLB, compass, walkie talkie)

* as an exercise for the student, how might the 'ten essentials' be modified for Hawaii?

At the minimum a water bottle would have been nice. It seems water wasn't a problem but it's unhandy to have to stick close to a puddle or stream. The main problem must have been the broken leg, couldn't self rescue. A PLB or maybe even just a loud whistle would have been handy.

A quality signal mirror, or even some sort of makeshift shiny surface, would have been handy, as well
