Yep, was thinking of exactly that when I first posted! Loved that story; hear the movie version in no way did it justice.

Saw the movie version with Donald Sutherland and I have to agree for the most part.

The puppetmasters used a technique for overwhelming the first Military response, and taking over the soldiers which wouldn't have worked if you understand that there are no innocents in war, just victims and victors.

I did enjoy both versions of a movie that had cocoons that sent forth duplicates as the originals slept, but I don't know if those films were a take on "Puppetmasters", or some other book. I felt both versions were very well done.
