What Is the Most Poisonous Mushroom? -- Death Cap, be very careful if you like your liver.

If any readers here are into hunting for wild mushrooms, be very careful of this one. This is a good article to read. I don’t have a need for wild caught mushrooms in my diet; I stick with packaged white mushrooms found in the vegetable section of the local grocery store, although Shiitake are also pretty good if you can find them. I don’t experiment when it comes to eating fungus.

Good advice.
Those are fairly common around here. I go hunting mushrooms in the wild and I found (but did not even touch) about a dozen death caps last season.
I read about a few poisonings with mushrooms last year. The victims did not have much experience and did not consult an expert with their mushrooms. Around here there are experts who offer free identification in advertized hours. They may toss an entire batch in the bin if they find anything suspicious, unidentifiable fragments or definitely poisonous.

Just a quick plug for a book I like: https://smile.amazon.com/Foraging-Recipes-Foraged-Feasts-Idiots-ebook/dp/B01AL4HUIY/. I can’t honestly say “no affiliation,” as I know the author.

The thing about Death cap mushrooms (Amanita species) all basically work by killing your liver. The only thing that would save you is a transplant.

Good reason to never bother with mushrooms. They don't offer a lot of caloric value anyhow.
