I own a pair, but have the nylon instead of the leather. Love them. They don't slip in the water, and most importantly, my feet don't slide around inside them when they are wet. I highly recommend them. The rubber across the toes is an extra bonus for me since I have a wonderfull habit of breaking my toes. I was away for the weekend. Spent 5 days at our lake house in upper WI, and wore them almost constantly.

I believe that "day trips" are one of the most hazardous outdoor activities we can participate in.

Why? Because most people who go on a day hike are not equipped to spend a night in the wild. Even an overnight backpacker will usually have a tent and sleeping bag (if they don't, it's because they're knowledgeable enough to build a shelter without them), but a daytripper will often only take nothing more than a couple of bottles of Evian, the clothes on their back, and a camera.

Sandals are probably great but make sure you have a couple of pairs of wool socks in case the weather turns sour. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I never wear sandals or "open" shoes of any sort. In warm weather, I wear low hikers. That's about as close as I get.

I have this overt fear of achille tendon impacts anywhere off of paved roads. I won't wear anything lower than an 8" high boot or shoe, and I prefer 10" high out in the "sticks".

My excuse is I stepped on a wasp once when I was very young. We were walking around a park barefoot when it happened. This was before beer can pull-tabs became a problem. All I remember is screaming from the pain. Hence, I wear hiking boots. I wear them even to the beach, to the amusement of my family. I don't wear them into the water, but I keep thinking I should.

Correction; make that 6" and 8" instead of 8" and 10" high boots.
