Our neighbours in British Columbia have had a tough spring. As I understand it, rapid snowmelt in a number of areas has caused flooding and related disasters.

Close call! Good for conscientious first responders....

I think they're lucky to be alive. I certainly wouldn't want to be caught in this. It's not like a risk you can reasonably anticipate and mitigate.

What are the odds that trained first responders would be on the same highway? Their injuries were pretty serious. No doubt the assessment from the firefighter on scene brought in the medivac chopper a lot more quickly.
