And now Carson City NV, -and some Three Dozen other Major Wildfires thruout the American West!

And thats just Now! This Doesn't Include the Ones that have already Occurred this Year! Or Will Yet Occur!

Let's Catch the Fire Fighting, Prevention, and Management Spirit in this Country! As One of the Spirits and Priorities we Should be Having!

Fires Are and Have Been Getting Numerous and Bad Lately!

Let's Quit Trying to Fight and Manage Them on a Shoestring!

This is More a Higher Priority!, -rather than a Lower Priority Matter!

Especially When Cities such as Carson, Fairbanks, Sydney, and San Diego Start being Threatened! [color:"black"] bountyhunter

I spoke with a friend of mine last week that lives in Carson. He said that at some point the visability was down to 200 yards and it was very smokey. Highway 395 ( the major North/South route)was shut down at one point also. The fire reportadly burned to 1/2 mile of the Gov's mansion. That means basically up to the Western edge of the city. Several home in the hills outside the city were lost and last week evacuees numbered into the hundreds. If anyone is interested I can get an update and post it. I'm headed up there on Friday.

PS, -I Hear and Understand your Response in the Elections Thread, (If Not Neccessarily Entirely Agree), -but that had been Understandably Locked by the time I saw your Reply, -and so Couldn't Respond there. But I Do so here and now.

Again, -Society's Chosen a Bad Series of Fire Seasons!, -to so Enroach where their Numerous such Homesites, -Don't Really Belong!!! [color:"black"] bountyhunter

Thanks for your Information and Observations there!, -X Ray.

As in the Past Decade or Two!, -We are Only Gonna be Hearing about More and More Major Fires! This Year and in Years to Come!

And the Fire Maps I see on the News still Show Plenty of Blazes up in Alaska as Well!

Let's Make Fire Fighting and Prevention a Front Burner National Matter! Rather than a Scrape and Cobble Together Afterthought! We Really Can't Afford to be Indefinitely Doing the Latter! [color:"black"] X-ray Dave

The DISCOVERY CHANNEL has a very good documentary on firefighting in the USA. The history of fire suppresion has a direct bearing on our situation today. The bottom line is many forest systems have a fire ecology which periodically cleans house for the good of all. Many seeds actually require the heat of fire to germinate. We can no more stop fire than drill relief holes in the Sand Andreas fault line. We can get everyone together, ignore agendas ( logging barons want to sell everythingdown to the shagged jeans of their employee's and deep ecologists want us to return to a hunter gatherer vegan population of half a million.) and sort the mess out.

Amen to What you've just said!

Also, -I've recently Seen a Good Firefighting Documentary on PBS, -No More than Four Years Old. Speaking of 2001 and Earlier Fires. Don't Know if it's the Same as the One you Mentioned, -But it Well Makes your Central Point! [color:"black"] Chris Kavanaugh
