We're on another body in the water recovery job out here in Bucks County, this time a 17 year old kid tried to swim accross the delaware river with three buddies last night (Thursday June 24)

He didn't make it across. His freinds called for help, we got out there in just crazy-fast time, but he was nowhere to be found.

Several boats and helicopters went out last night, we quit searching at 10 PM, and started again this AM.

We have a few islands in the river here, some tiny little chunks of gravel, some mile-long, 50 foot wide spits, and in some of these cases, we could not get in close enough to do a shoreline search with the motorboat, so me and another guy from the fire company just got out an walked the perimeter of the island in our jeans and sneakers, in thigh-deep water. Three miles of slogging in a 7 mile-per hour current, and my legs were really feeling it.

We didn't find the kid, didn't really expect to. The water is 71 degrees (that's 21.6 degrees to you folks who use themometers with insufficient resolution), so I expect someone will find him tomorrow, if tonights heavy rains don't move the body too far down river.

No real survival story here, just a post to people who might relate on a sad job.

Sad story of another life lost through gross stupidity. I hope the young lads body is found soon for his families sake.
