What a nifty little light!

I attached it to my Spyderco Jester to create a tiny but useful "team."

I went to place an order for two Photon Freedom lights at the suggested link http://alphanet.zoovy.com
and was quoted a shipping charge of $6.85 for two lights shipped by US Priority mail. I then cancelled the order and sent an email to the web site stating that it did not cost $6.85 to ship to Photons by priority mail and asking if the difference was in fact part profit since the price on the lights were low. The web site reply with what I consider to be one of the rudest and most unprofessional responces.

I was told that they sell over 40,000 lights and that I was ignorant to write such a letter and obviously did not know what I was talking about.

Clearly no response would have been better than an insullting letter.

Anyone considering doing business with these people should read the email I sent and their response.

I would be happy to forward copies upon request.

I guess the shipping works out if you buy a whole bunch of stuff at once. If you buy the light direct from photonlight.com it's around $20 with free shipping, works out about the same as paying the big shipping charge from that other place.

Craig, note that funny string of letters in the URL (Wmb...) is the shopping cart ID. Please edit it out--as it is, everyone who clicks on it will get the same shopping cart, which can cause various problems. Anyone who had this happen, delete your browser cookie from that site and try again.

I just visited again and found one of the shipping options is first class mail at $3.95, total of $16.90. Still kind of steep but not as bad IMO.

The Freedom is a real nice light but I think the $1.00 Countycomm lights, while not as spiffy, make paying $12.95 for a coin cell light kind of a weird proposition.

Nonetheless I couldn't resist the cute green Photon II with the Spyderco logo that's available with the Jester. I have the Jester/Photon II combo on my keys and it just looks great.

A couple of dollars either way is not really an issue. However being rude and calling your customer names is really not appropriate. I would hate to think what would happen if there was ever a problem with an order or an issue.

TomSwango:

Could be they were rude so they could be rid of you as a customer. The way things seem to operate with some companies nowadays is if they get it right most of the time for most of the customers, they don't want to deal with people that have a logical argument before they even purchase anything.

You may or may not be right about the shipping charge being part of the profit, but if you think they are gouging people, try opening your own shop and see if you can do better.

Just so you know, I am not being flippant, but having done other things as a side business, and currently doing some knife sales on the side, not all that comes my way is the large profit that some may think exists if all they saw is my cost and my selling price. You can make a profit on food at a low mark up because it is sold everyday on a large scale, and here in Wisconsin, the average large store has a 1% to 1.5% profit margin on groceries. Jewelry stores the world over charge 100's and 1,000's of percent mark up because jewelry is not a large scale purchased commodity.

Good luck!

I got mine from the manufacturer because they offer the covert version with the "hood" covering the LED. Not every vendor selling the Freedom offers the covert version.
