Hello,

I must be getting very old.....A few years ago, I saw a young boy scout roll up his bedroll with paracord and he left enough from the wrap to fashion a "sling" and then carried his bedroll over his back.

I have done this before (long ago, back when dirt was invented,) but can't find any reference online for the knot. I scrolled for a long time through ABOK's but must have missed it (it's GOT to be in there....somewhere!)

Does anyone here know this little trick and could you share that cool little trick?

Maybe he used the remainder to fashion a timber hitch on the opposite end?

This is what I use but with a long tail on the initial bowline to make into the shoulder sling.

I recognize Blast's knot, but I forgot the ABoK number. It's classified as a parcel knot, and is probably in the occupational knots section. I'd check there for the knot you saw.

When I want a handle/shoulder strap on a bound bundle, I use a length of cord with versatackle knots on both ends. The remaining cord between the knots becomes a handle or strap.

I did manage to rediscover what that little snot nosed boy scout did.....he did in fact tie a simple Canadian jam knot on one end and then used a timber hitch on the other end using the slack.
