I've recieved a few concerned emails about some recent posts. I will not 'name names' or seek scapegoats. We all suffer from foot in mouth disease on occasion. So, I am setting out a few guidelines. Politics and Religon are bad subjects in bars and I like to drink in peace. So, if it's not about the ultimate survival rifle, gun control is out. That includes Rosie O'Donnell and her dance partner Chuck Heston. Cute misspellings of Kalifornia or Klinton are also out. These little snipes are about as passe' as rainbow bracelets at a gaypride parade. Comments about other nations, regardless of popular jingoism are out. If I can't walk into a british pub and shout UP THE REBEL's, I won't make similar inflamatory statements online. Senator Bob Dole commented about the rancor that has invaded politics since the
Reagan years. I must be the only Green party member who voted for him- twice. So, think about the comments and win one for The Gipper- and the forum.

A Politics and Religon discussion evolved on another forum of which I'm a member. I took note, and said I'd sit this one out. Sure enough, that "discussion" erupted into nastiness pretty quickly.

I don't even discuss these things with my immediate family. I know better. I discuss them with my wife, but we have an understanding.

These subjects are volatile and very personal. They should stay personal almost all the time.

In my family the "verboten" subjects are; religion, politics, choice of computer platform & redheaded women. <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

That is an excellent point. I recently read an interesting book about marriage (getting hitched in 4 weeks) and the book discussed this very subject. I had to laugh when I read that "One shouldn't talk about politics, religion, or sex with your potential in-laws, expecially sex, since the only sex they can think about is the "Wild Monkey Sex" you are having with their daughter." Words to live by.
