I know the big news tonight is the storm on the East Coast but for a change of topics here is a photo from one of my very old,1985,canoe trips.



I had a bunch of my old slides transferred to a CD.
this was my first wilderness trip and I just took the gear I had for floats down my local river,the St Croix.
summer nights on a sandbar with just a trap pulled over the canoe might work for a weekend but two weeks in the wilderness in the Fall turned out to be a real challenge.
note that I added a few extra feet to the end of the tarp with a cut opened trash bag!
the point is of course with all the small light weight tents available now trying to "tarp it" is sort of pointless.
as time went on I moved to a small tent and a Baker Shelter.
by the way I was using my Army poncho as a ground cloth and rain gear.after being on the ground wearing it in the rain was a dirty mess.
