So, we (Wazoo Survival Gear) like to incorporate kits into tubes, Core Tubes.

We have a project (future product) that we want to incorporate wire into for survival and EDC.

My business partner and I have two different wires we prefer.

Option 1: Brass 24 gauge wire - 17.5 ft. The standard go-to for snare wire in survival kits. One continuous length. Slightly softer than single strands of the other option, but also weaker.

Option 2: Stainless 7 strand twisted wire - 30 in. (untwisting the strands yields the same 17.5 ft total length of wire) - 100 lb break strength when in its standard twisted form, but can be broken into 7 different 30" strands if needed for smaller tasks or snares.

What do y'all think? What kind of wire would you want to have around everyday just-in-case? Have another preferred wire?

I am currently using florist wire in my kit, but I have no idea as to the breaking strength. It is available in different gauges and is dark green, which is good for disappearing into the background, like when you are making trip lines or snares.

Yeah, for the ability to camouflage into foliage, that and military trip wire might be good options as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Especially from a Texan.

Stainless steel mechanics wire. Being able to MacGyver a repair is more usefull to me than tying a snare.

That's sort of the thought with the brass 24 gauge full length wire. It is very useful for those MacGyver repairs.

We could just as easily use 24 gauge stainless over brass. Do you see an advantage?

I'd rather have a harder wire than brass. If I'm working with wire chances are very good that I have a pliers-based multitool with me.

+1 My EDC multitool can handle hard wire. EDC wire is a four corner (very heavy) paper clip unfolded & stored in the sheath. I use a stainless steel wire for kits and keep a big length with the household screw box. I don't know what gauge it is. It was what Harbor Freight or Northern Tool had on the shelf.

OK, so more specifically, would you rather have a long single strand (18ft) or a short multi strand (30") that in theory you can separate out into individual strands?

i've packed a 100' roll of Stainless 7 strand twisted plastic-coated wire for 40 years but still haven't had the need to use it, so can't say if its the best ;-)

I think I would prefer single-stranded.
