A grocery chain is selling 1 ft long Swedish Fire Logs. I bought 2 since these are made of Birch and there are no birch trees in Louisiana, to the best of my knowledge and experience. I have harvested the outer birch bark as tinder. I got a gallon sized ziplock bag of peeling bark off of 1 log and still have the 2nd log to strip bark from.

Great score, Wildman! I'd be happy to send you some if you need more. Birch is common around here, and one of my favourite tinders.

I thank you for that offer but there are other tinder materials around that I use. This was an unexpected find that was special in that we don't often get Swedish Fire Logs down here AND these are birch! I miss the birch trees and terrain around Michigan and Ontario state/province!!! This brings back good memories of when I was privileged to work with the Canadian Coast Guard.

I don't think I've ever seen a Swedish fire log for sale before. That alone would be cool, but with birch bark too? Super score!

I had a fleeting dream of joining the Coast Guard, once upon a time, but it was just because I had a crush on a cool guy. LOL! WE Canadian waterways users thank you for your service! smile

The Canadian Coast Guard has bailed my butt out of several situations in which my icebreaking tug was just too small and too overpowered by the natural forces to make any progress. Usually on the St Mary River just below the Sault.
