After hearing of this story last week, I asked my eight-year-old son whether he would have been able to survive. The conversation was a classic.
Me: "Do you think you could survive for six days in the forest by yourself?"
Kid sits down and thinks seriously for a moment.
Kid: "Well, it would be hard. I would need to bring some string with me so I could make a bow & arrows and hunt, and I don't think I could make my own string from a tree, but I could get wood from a tree. But oh, wait, how would I cut the wood from the tree? (Thinks for a moment.) Oh, I know! I would need to find a pet beaver to cut the trees for me!"
I love the way kids' minds work!
