Black plastic garbage bags and a smaller roll of duct tape.

Back when I was in Boy Scouts, we cut all the matches in our match safe in half. We cut off and discarded the "handle"
part of the stick. Then we had double the number of short matches. Trying to split them long ways is iffy at best.

Now that is a great idea!

If you have a multitool, you can hold the short match with the pliers and not worry about the fingers burning.

I now have to find all my match safes and start cutting.

Thanks!
