Nice story, indeed. I think, bears helped him to produce enough adrenaline to survive the cold for 36 hours But, I doubt he will ever reattempt the flight.
My take is that he had at least 2 pieces of gear similar to a PLB or better (Sat phone and Sat GPS tracker), however, he became too negligent after too many effortless flight hours.

Thanks! I just messaged him the link. I agree, he had the equipment, but didn't seem to have a handy way to exit the craft with everything. I think Doug's points about keeping survival equipment on one's person would serve Sergey well. PLBs are inexpensive and small enough that he could have a dedicated unit always on him.
