An engaging read, guaranteed to both entertain and bring armchair commentary. laugh

A helicopter pilot on a solo round-the-world trip ditches in the Canadian arctic ocean. Dodges polar bears. Is rescued.

Nice story, indeed. I think, bears helped him to produce enough adrenaline to survive the cold for 36 hours smile But, I doubt he will ever reattempt the flight.

Someone should send that guy this link: http://www.equipped.org/simon_t.htm

A PLB in a leg pocket on his exposure suit would have been a real bonus. A spare air may not hurt either!

My take is that he had at least 2 pieces of gear similar to a PLB or better (Sat phone and Sat GPS tracker), however, he became too negligent after too many effortless flight hours.

By the way you can advise him yourself if you wish: http://www.facebook.com/sergey.ananov just friend him, he seem to be OK with English.

Thanks! I just messaged him the link. I agree, he had the equipment, but didn't seem to have a handy way to exit the craft with everything. I think Doug's points about keeping survival equipment on one's person would serve Sergey well. PLBs are inexpensive and small enough that he could have a dedicated unit always on him.
