I was checking out Spec ops brand the other day and saw their new "Survival Sheath" (click on sheaths, then survival sheath). This looks like an interesting piece of gear, however a little expensive at $49.95. The page does not gives sizes beyong short and long. I asked Spec Ops Brand and they replied to me saying the sheaths will hold a blade a 1/4" thick, 1 3/4" wide, and 6" or 7 1/2" long for the short or long sheaths, respectively. What does everybody here think of this sheath?

It looks like a well made RESPONSE to carrying survival gear in the sheath. INNOVATION is marketing speak for " We are copying what people in the field are doing." I believe Beckers sheath inspired this trend with a tight fit for the classic Altoids PSK. It's a step up, or out of hollow handled knives. If the concept appeals to people fine. Keeping essentials in a single rig has it's pros and cons. If everything works and is secure your styling like Stallone. If something fails practice smiling like Leslie Nielson. Personally, I'll stick to my pockets. They come free with my clothes and $50 is a lot of sushi with my G/F. Any knife I buy better have a functional sheath to begin with anyway.

Sounds like a good bargain if you walk around naked, or without pockets to put those other items in.

For that kind of money, I can buy a Ka-Bar Marine knife with kydex sheath here in Milwaukee, WI.

After just a bit of "Knife Testing", I cut the "cargo container" off my then new BK-10 sheath. Last place I want to carry stuff is where it makes me wider. I put a small container in the sheath pocket to see what it was like to carry stuff there and almost immediatly got it hung up on some brush. Then It got tangled in the seat-belt of my truck.

I eventually modified the sheath a lot to make it thinner and a high rider.

Personally I would not get a sheath with a cargo compartment.
