Woke up at 1:30 this morning to the bed shaking. After figuring out it wasn't the dog, we concluded we were having an earthquake. It lasted about half a minute. No damage at our location. As soon as it was done, we got up and dressed and checked news. Earthquake Alert app on phone had caught it, but all local news (radio, tv, internet) was rather disappointing. A couple small after shocks about half an hour later that we didn't feel. Back to bed now.

Hmm, not as much damage as you'd think. Of course, we are a ways from the epicenter, so for us just a bumpy ride in bed. But Kenai has some broken gas lines they are having to deal with, a house fire or two, and a heave in the road from Soldotna to Kasilov down near Kenai that made a crack with about an 18 inch vertical offset. Lots of mag 3.5 to 4.5 aftershocks all morning, but we can't really feel them. I expect we will have some over the next week or so that we might feel. Not much we can do during the quake but stay put, cover up, and ride it out. Getting dressed quickly after to prepare to exit the house was our first priority. You don't know what you might have to deal with after something like that. No deaths, no big injuries, no major damage. Just a good reminder of where we are.

No aftershocks yet. I've determined that I would prefer to be home than work. Even if my house suffers structural damage, I would still fare much better.
