Has anyone tried this LED conversion for the Maglite. I still own regular Maglites and have yet to change over to LED, partly due to cost, but mainly due to the thought of throwing out a perfectly good torch.
Any comments
Martin

I haven't tried it. It looks neat, but if my figures are correct, it's more expensive than the original Mag-lite. The cheapest price I saw for it was US$19.95 on-line; one European site was charging US$35. I think it might be cheaper just to buy a LED flashlight new and keep the Mag-lite as a backup. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Martin,

I have one of those and a luxeon star upgrade coming - any day now - and will comment when I've had time to play with them. I like the EverLED PR2 conversions very much - a red one and a white one - they reside in a 2D and 3D Maglite, respectively. Spendy, perhaps, but they work great.

Regards,

Tom

It's a good piece of kit. It gave new life to my AA maglight and should pay for itself in terms of bulbs and batteries! (no bulbs to replace and less battery changes!)
It is well constructed, bright and gives an even beam. Perfect for checking my patient's throats.

The Opalec Newbeam is a great light. Mine (I have three!) see more use than any of my other lights - including my +£100 Surefire E2E/KL4.
You get 10 hours regulated light and the low battery warning red LED is a great feature.
Get one in the UK from ODS or 7dayshop.com

I have the opalec as well and I will say one thing that I dont like about it, there is no beam focus. Like a pinch light you get a lot of light from a small package, but it goes eveywhere. It is just about as bright as a regular bulb and it lasts a million times longer. Dont try and filter the light with a red lense or you will dim it to almost nothing, use the blue lense instead. Other than that, its a great piece of gear! I would recommend it!
