Humidity is one of the most destructive forces of mother nature. I bet that the fuel is fine; just the metal if going bad. Maybe try some plastic fuel containers for long term storage.
Sadly, another lesson in the wisdom of checking and rotating supplies on a scheduled basis (not a criticism as something similar happened to me a couple of years ago in my basement). We all know better, but still. . . .well, life catches up with us!
