Photon 3 Covert -- opinions?

I'd like to buy a Photon 3 Covert. I'm tired of the side-spill from the LEDs on my Photon II's. Or rather, when I hold one in my mouth, my near-sighted eyes are bothered by it.
I've read hear and elsewhere, however, that the multifunction switch is difficult to keep pressing all the time. Was this problem confined to the earlier runs of the light, or does it still exist in the newer lights, too?

I can't speak for recent Photon 3's, but I know mine has the bad habit of turning on in pockets. Cycling through all of those modes is an exercise in patience, too. FYI, I see there is a new Photon "Freedom" light... might be worth checking out... http://www.photonlight.com/

Indeed there is. Found several favorable reviews, too. I have linked to this one: Mighty Photon "Freedom" Micro I think I'm going to buy the Covert version of the new Freedom model.

Yes it is a great light. Stages of brightness, ease of use, easy battery swapping and being water proof gets all my votes.
One of the features I like is that it can go directly to the lowest brightness setting without stopping at any different levels.
Switch is very nice too and you feel like you are acctually pressing it.

Good enough. How could I differentiate a recent Photon 3 Covert from an earlier one, especially if the purchase is done on the web?

Craig, I too wanted only directional lighting with my small lights. I tried the Inova Micro Lights and I've loved them. I can't tell much difference between them and my photon's, plus i like their attachment clip instead of the photon's ring. They'd be worth a lood for you. I've enjoyed mine. check out www.botachtactical.com They're prices are pretty reasonable. --Luke

Hi All,
FWIW. Just a quiet observation here regarding Botach, there have been several members on both here at Equipped and CandlePowerForums.com [do a search for Botach and/or cruise through the "Cheers & Jeers" threads at CPF] that have had less than satisfactory experiences with them when placing web based orders, IIRC the consensus is that when ordering it is advisable to do it by phone to ensure status of potential back ordered items before getting ones hopes up...
Qualifying disclaimer: Please consider this as second hand info. and that things may have changed in regards to the delivery / issues mentioned above and that I've not personally ordered anything from them. Also note that there have been some posters that feel that things went well with their respective purchases at Botach. The above is not intended as a bashing of Botach, just a "heads-up".
Regards, Comanche7

The covert does put light where you want it and nowhere else. I've got a blue one that has been great on battery life and performance in the cold of the Great White North.
(Plus...it's a backup strobe light...yep, it's that bright. Note: *backup*. Actually, backup backup...since the Inova 24/7 is the backup to the MS2000 Doublefly...but that's another thread.)
I haven't had any problems with the majority of the Photon 3's, except I've had a strange experience with two. They went through the 'stock' batteries in no time flat, but are now behaving themselves. (Just my luck to get the one that *everybody* had to test.)
The mode switch 'could' be a bit faster, but it's not that bad. I preset mine for the auto-shutoff, which I personally find most useful incase it goes Christine on me and turns itself on.
Note that the Freedoms do not have the autoshutoff. Also note that depending on the color of the bulb, you get either SOS flash or slow strobe flash, as well as the autoshutoff mode either strobing for 3 seconds or gradually going to full power.

I'd first go for a white LED and if I like it, then get a red one.
