I came across this watch and thought it may be useful since it would work as an EDC item for my suit wearing job. But not knowing a lot about compasses, I wonder if this would actually work and be somewhat reliable/accurate being so close to the steel watch case. I would appreciate any input regarding the compass part of this watch. Thanks! -Derek http://www.4abnet.com/navigator.html
It's got a compass, thermometer, hook sharpener, and a red LED light, and i don't have to wear it on my wrist. The compass is button-compass sized, I don't know how that compares to the Wenger.
Combinations like this usually employ some simple dampening to negate any false reading. Remember that ships are steel affairs with several compasses aboard. I have a modest Wenger wristwatch that serves me well.

Derek,
It seems to work fine. The watch frame is made of aluminum (non-magnetic). It's okay for general direction finding, which is about all I'll need it for. I don't think you'd want to use it to navigate in the woods. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Really, the main reason I got it was the carabiner clip. Hope that helps.
