The american retailer K-MART has isued a recall on Martha Stewart matches. The release states they may ignite when struck against hard objects. I grabbed a case before the diligent, career minded clerks ( cleanup on aisle #5 ) saw the notice. They are lovely, coordinated with fatwood bundles french braided in paracord and tied in with swiss, miss or swish army knives for niche markets.

There are safety matches which are supposed to ignite only when struck against a special striker. In that case it would be bad if they iginte with any hard surface. Maybe this action is performed to protect people from whatever risk those matches may pose.
Selling the strike anywhere matches was illegal for a long time in my neck of the woods for the very same reason.

I should have figured that.
A few years ago the strike anywhere matches started to turn up in stores for outdoors equipment (appearently people need less protection now or got smarter ). People around here are still not familiar with them. Itīs always fun to watch them strike one of those while expecting that it will not ignite.
