i just bought a few videos off the hoods woods site, spark based fire building and survival kits.

ive only seen the survival kits video so far, its pretty decent if your just learning about survival and kit ingredients.

for most on this site especially those who camp alot im sure its pretty much just a refresher course.

i picked up quite a few tips though, such as:
1.making a bow type weapon out of a carbiner and the rubber part of a slingshot.
2.making a bird trap on the ground.
4. making a snare trap.
5 breaking down a maxi and mini survival kit ingredients (pretty basic stuff but good for newbies).
a few other things but i forget at the moment.

the good: nice steady camera and good sound quality, the demonstrations explained well without much need to rewind constantly.

the bad: even though i think this guy is cool, he could organize things better to fit in more info.

in the start of the tape, id spread out the items give a quick once over then there isnt as much need to spend to much time explaining in detail later.

all in all i think the tape was pretty good, especially to see some items and techniques used instead of just reading about them.
id recommend these for newbies like i said.

btw. the site says the survival kit tape has a "updated version".
not sure if this is the version i have but ill ask, they are great at answering questions in email.

ill review the firestarting one soon.

id like to know what other members bought the hoods woods tapes or maybe other survival tapes.

we need more reviews on tapes like these folks, so we know what to buy and what to skip.

Doug has reviewed several videos in the publications section. I enjoyed the Westmoreland Mountain and Desert series. Peter Bigfoot (desert volume) of Reevis Mountain School is a fascinating person and very knowledgable. There was an outstanding earthquake film produced by a LAFD member after the Northridge Quake. I have been trying to find the video without success. It would translate well for any urban emergency. Forum member Les is making his series for broadcast. I've enjoyed his approach as a student vs expert.

I have purchased all the Hoods videos. IMO it is money well spent. The info with the Demos are easy to understand and adapt to your own needs.
You will not find any better than these!
