Middle Daughter in particular loves this exercise and would be very cross with me if I did it without her.

I go through it about once a year to refamiliarize myself with the contents and to re evaluate everything I've put into it. I rarely remove gear and all to often, add something else to the kit.

Mine gets modified to a camping backpack about once a month and everything gets used, checked and replaced/updated.

Emergency supplies get inventoried and updated twice a year. At the beginning and ending of daylight savings time.

I have to replace the furnace filters and smoke alarm batteries at that time, so it makes sense to spend a couple of hours and check the kits.

I keep a index card in a top pocket, where I list expiration dates of foods, meds, etc., and a reminder list of useful things kept elsewhere in the car that I may want to put into my BOB. I generally recheck the bag each Spring and Fall, and anytime I've been "borrowing" things out of it.
