A blog post from the CDC: 'On the Track: How Games Can Help Make Us Disaster Ready'

Last August, I embarked on a cross-country train trip to explore how games might be used for disaster preparedness.

In each city I met with first responders, Red Cross chapters, disaster management agencies, and community leaders. The goal was to identify ways to increase resilience through interactive games. The trip was fascinating, and exposed some core truths about our country’s relationship with disasters.

Interesting insights. It will be fun watching what she develops.

Methinks she has a solution (her company) in search of a problem. And incredible generalizations. What in the world is she smoking?

I did a literature research about why people don't prepare and the most mentioned cause seams to be unrealistic optimism; 'it won't happen to me' or 'it won't be that bad'.

I seriously doubt the interactive game approach will have significant effect of the prepardness level of people. And if it does, i doubt it will be the most cost effective approach.

Game called "this war of mine"...have to live with our decisions during gameplay just like reality..pretty good reviews so far. If anyone has played this, please post a review. Thanks

I haven't played that game, but there are a number of card games that look to be promising.

There's no lack of WROL/TEOTWAEKI/PAW games, but realistic ones that don't involve eating the neighbors are rare.
